Individual Assignment Section 3

Present Days of Fireworks Development

Much of the developments in today’s fireworks are focused on improving its explosion color, size, and design. But in essence, the manner as to which fireworks are created today is the same as how fireworks were made centuries ago. Additional steps were just included to incorporate new colors such as salmon, pink, and aqua, which were all not available in the past (Helmenstine, 2012). However, there is a new breed of fireworks being developed in which compressed air is used instead of gunpowder. Also, fireworks are now handled thru the use of electronic timers which control the timing of the shell’s explosion (Helmenstine, 2012). Today, fireworks are being used by both private and public corporations during other important celebrations, not just during the New Year. Another, there are now annual pyrotechnic competitions that are held worldwide which allow fireworks maker to exhibit their works and let people see wonderful and breathtaking fireworks display.

Individual Assignment Section 2

 How Fireworks Developed
Gunpowder was eventually perfected by the Chinese. They have developed black powder which can undergo strong combustion; strong enough to create propulsion. And this propulsion has turned simple fireworks to rockets. The people back then made hand-carved wooden rockets in the shape of a dragon and sent these flying to the sky using black powder. Black powder was even used in warfare against Mongol invaders during 1279. And this introduced the technology of fireworks to other civilizations. Explorers who had the chance to learn the technology of gunpowder and fireworks took this knowledge back to their home (Helmenstine, 2012). In this way, the technology of fireworks has reached to different civilizations including the Arabs and the Europeans. Even though the Chinese invented the fireworks, the Europeans surpassed them in the pyrotechnic development in the 14th century (ThinkQuest, 2012). Eventually, the technology of fireworks was extended to the development of guns (Helmenstine, 2012). But schools in Germany still continued to develop and improve fireworks and its entertainment value. In the 17th century, fireworks were being used in an unprecedented scale for entertainment purposes (ThinkQuest, 2012). It has reached the United States in the 19th century but because of associated injuries to children, the use of fireworks has been restricted and discouraged.
